Bentonville is a battle I don’t feel I’ve taken enough time to study. I didn’t realize it was so desperate. Of course the Southern cause was a desperate one at that late stage, but the struggle itself appears to have been so vicious. What a tangled mess on the right of the line. There must have been so much chaos and confusion in those woods. And the Confederates who attempted to envelop the Federal line must not have known which way to run to escape capture. Would have been terrifying.
