im a northernor and even I understand that the confederates were fighting for so much more than slavery, slavery wasn’t even the main reason

  2. 9thvirginia says:

This is Bobby Horton, not Johnny Horton. Johnny Horton sang “The Battle of New Orleans”

  3. 00JTM says:

If people only knew who that General was that is on my family tree, they would be surprised to hear those words from me. However, I assure you sir, those words are honest and heartfelt and YES! God Bless Dixie!

  8. aubie1011 says:

As much as I agree with ya, I don’t think it was just the South that had slaves at that point. If you look at history, many Northerners had slaves too. Slavery was just an issue created by Yankees to deflect from the real issue — that of the rights of the Southerners to form their own government. I very much doubt that even after abolishing slavery, dishonest Abe would have let the South leave just like that.

@Sonoma1000 Very nice to hear such words. I salute your thought sir! God bless Dixie!!!

  12. Sonoma1000 says:

does anyone out there have a confederate flag that they can spare? It would be greatly appreciated

  13. Sonoma1000 says:

Granted, an ancestor of mine was a General during the civil war, but that does not mean i support everything the north did. I also am a Yankee by birth, But as god is my witness, I am a rebel by choice

@NormbrettaMod I think most of us Southerners have a soft spot for the British. You supported us as well as you possibly could, under the mistakes of the Jefferson Davis CSA Presidency. The names of Southern people show a strong
family connection to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and Southern music powerfully echoes that connection.

The P1853 Enfield .577 is almost as strong a symbol of the CSA as the Confedrate Battle Flag.

  15. glnelson1956 says:

@RebelStallion The British supported the South as strongly as they possibly could under the circumstances. But the Davis presidency hampered British support. Had Davis announced a plan to end Southern slavery, the British would have given us full support.

As a Southerner, I feel that Davis’ bullheaded refusal to end slavery has stigmatized “The War for Southern Independence” (untruthfully of course), as a fight to keep slavery.

Jefferson Davis’ narrow thinking hurt the Southern war effort.

such a sad song that speaks the truth about the way southern soldiers fought. the southern soldiers barely had the resources to fight the might of the union YET we engaged the yankees for 4 damn years! god bless the south my true beloved land — proud dixie girl

  17. duhthl says:

    That’s nice! WHITE POWER!!!!!!!!

  18. NormbrettaMod says:

I wouldn’t say scared, they were just growing very quickly and might have been a little intimidating due to their size. These days I would say we’re scared of them and we’re are constantly trying to be approved by them. We’re like followers now. We try to copy their culture and we often get jealous of how fond of the French they appear to be .

  19. RebelStallion says:

Well at that time Britain was involved everywhere. Personally I have liked the British though! And yes it was nice of Britain to support the South, even if it was just verbal and later retracted by Britain under the Yankee pressure (Brits were scared of Yankees)

  20. NormbrettaMod says:

Alright, but you must understand that the fact we helped you at all in a matter that really wasn’t our business is very honourable.

  21. timothykatz says:

  22. RebelStallion says:

I would say you “almost” supported us. Where were you when we needed you the most? Actions speak louder than words, Sir! For my beloved Dixie! Great song!

  23. NormbrettaMod says:

I’m proud that we supported the confederacy in the civil war.

  24. KingXanthus says:
