Is North Carolina a redneck state?

I don’t hear North Carolina in redneck jokes as much as Alabama, Lousiana or Tennessee but I do hear the odd North Carolina redneck comment. But do you consider North Carolina a southern redneck state?
lol, the whole south is, but that’s just generally.
well, i visited n.c. and they were really twangy…not so much ‘redneck’ though.
Do they fly confederate flags? If so yes they are red-neck
Nah
I’m from Asheboro{where the Zoo’s at} and I don’t think of myself or my large family as redneck. We show no prejudice against race and we’re an intelligent bunch.Although we do tend to speak with a twang and speak to strangers like we know them.I love carolina but the traffic cops are a biatch.
hell no… have u ever been to fayettville or raleigh? white, upper-middle class USA right there
No & I live in North Carolina , too !
Georgia is often considered a redneck state & more so than
NC ever has been !
It also depends on what you are defining as ‘redneck’ !
‘Rednecks’ , generally are those folks who hate or dislike all
other races but their own & will often be uneducated , too !
I’m from Massachussetts, school in PA, lived in Maryland for 7 years… now I live in NC.
this is the south, trust me. WAY deep in the bible belt. however, this is not nearly as redneck as west virginia (lived there for a year), or the other states you mentioned. i would call it redneck, though. lots of mobile homes, lots of confederate flags, lots of pickup trucks.
well i live in north carolina, and there are lotz of rednecks. there are wanna be’s too! but its funny we consider ourselves rednecks. but i guess theres rednecks and yankees. and we all gotta be one of em. even tho there are a bunch of uppity people and from the south, their still rednecks just ain’t proud of it like most are around here.
It’s not on the level of Mississipi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, or South Carolina, but it is still a bit red.
I definitely noticed less racism in North Carolina than the previously mentioned states. But it’s certainly not progressive (a lot of overweight, american flag sporting jingoistic types).
But overall, when I think of a Lynard Skynyrd concert with people waving confederate flags and drinking tallboys, I don’t think North Carolina. North Carolina is diverse and beautiful (moutains and the coast) so despite my comments above, I would be proud to be a North Carolinian!
The term “redneck” was originally given to people who worked outdoors in fields in the hot sun all day. They had short hair so their necks got red from sunburn. They were probably quite honorable people, but later on the word started being used to describe people who were ignorant and racist. I’ve seen more ignorant racists in the north of this country, so they’re definitely not only in one area of this vast United States.
Jeff Foxworthy defines “redneck” as a “glorious lack of sophistication.” With that definition I doubt they’re confined to one area of the country or even the world.
So…
Rednecks are everywhere !!!
(just watch Jerry Springer – if you can stand it for 5 mins)
No! A redneck is an intolerant person, usually not too educated and could be from anywhere but usually thought to be from AL, KY or TN.
i consider North Carolina home!
North Carolina is definitely southern, and very diverse. Some of us consider ourselves rednecks, lots of us are black, and quite a few are Spanish or Asian. The Raleigh-Durham area has more people with doctorates per square mile than any other place in the world. We are home to great artisans, industry, and deep culture. I don’t think you could call out state a “redneck” state any more than one could call California a “homo” state or New Jersey a “mob” state.
Also it seems a bit odd that terms like redneck are O.K. to throw around but other derogatory terms to describe people of a certain ethnic group or characteristic are deemed unacceptable. People who make such broad sweeping statements as “redneck state” seem to always think in generalities anyway.
North Carolina is not a redneck state. It’s a southern state that has some country parts. Just like most other southern states.
but speaking of NC in jokes. I saw a comercial on comedy central last week where Greg Geraldo said: “Did you hear about the storms in the south this year? Yeah I hear 100s of people in NC lost their mullets.
Talk about a poor excuse for a joke. First the insult, and then insulting people affected by a natural disaster.
Sorry about the side rant. But to answer your question:
No
It’s the tarheel state baby! (but I hate UNC)
i consider all of those states killer diller downtown saturday night fun fun fun yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!
Depends on the area. Some areas are very redneck. Others have that “ole southrn charm” and can seem to be very upper crust.
There are rednecks in every state. Be careful to think that all people from “the south” are rednecks and all rednecks are from “the south.” A lot of people believe that, judging by others’ answers.
Go to upstate NY sometime.
hey! that isnt even funny! and no! them people up there sre goody 2 shoes! i am a red neck! dont be makin fun either! i live in LA too!
