Although in most shows or series filmed in New Orleans, the casting directors are quick to represent the correct racial makeup of the city, unlike “Seinfeld” which managed to get through an entire 8 seasons without representing the extreme diversity of midtown New York City. The character was originally supposed to be played by Brooke Kerr (Whitney from Passions), but I felt Wesley was a lot more authentic in look and attitude. I also liked the opening scene of the first episode, which had a young couple going into a local store and getting into a verbal confrontation with the store clerk posing as a vampire, and a real vampire/redneck. That then leads to a confrontation between the poser vampire and the real vampire in which the vampire/redneck tells threatens the poser for “pretending to be one of them.” This scene is especially classic because the poser is dressed as a total goth while the redneck is dressed like a typical beer-swilling hick.

Has filming begun? Have you been on the set, and if so what was it like for you? Filming starts June 7 (2007), last I heard. I have been on the set while it was still being built, and I’ve met some of the production crew. Without exception, they struck me with their questions, their interest, and their knowledge of the books. It was a really pleasant shock to find out they cared about the books and hoped their vision enriched mine.

The Southern town of Bon Temps provides a fun backdrop for this story. Take out the vampires, and you still have a whole town full of colourful characters, shape shifters, exorcisms and other weird goings on. I’m also excited about the premise of the story with the idea of vampires fighting for equal rights and some even mainstreaming.

The two known classifications of psychic vampires are conscious astral vampires, and subconscious magnetic vampires. The astral vampire can be undead due to its ability to astral project from its gravesite and drain the energy from living beings, which is redirected back to its corpse to retain its life force. Or the astral vampire may be of the living and are fully aware of what they are. They focus their energies and mind upon the mind of their victim to overcome it, then in the victims weakness they drain the life force from its thought. The more advanced living astral vampires project themselves into the astral realm to seek victims, and have very fierce and volatile personalities. The magnetic vampire is a living being that absorbs the prana of those around it, and most of the time do not understand what they are doing nor do they understand why. The majority of the entities are wanderers and see the results of their presence, but are in a perpetual state of denial about it. These vampires tend to be of a more negative orientation as when they become aware of what they are, they are already past the point of no return.

Sookie Stackhouse – Sookie is the naive and telepathic waitress who serves as the main character of the show. Her life gets turned upside down when she embarks on a relationship with the other lead character, vampire Bill.
