One of the most famous battles, and also one of the bloodiest, took place in West Tennessee. It was called the battle of Shiloh. It only took place from April 6-7, 1862. For the Union it was led by Ulysees S. Grant and Don Carlos Buell. For the Confederates it was Albert Sidney Johnston and P.G.T. Beauregard, Johnston actually died in this battle. The union had about 67,000 soldiers fight and the confederates had about 45,000. 13,047 Union soldiers were hurt in this battle, 1,754 killed, 8,408 wounded and the rest were missing or captured. The confederates had 10,684 hurt, 1,723 killed, 8,012 wounded, and 959 missing or captured. The Union won The Battle of Shiloh.
