I freaking love southern accents of all kinds, specifically ones using drawls- think Bill Compton from True Blood. Love it!

    Which one?

Each of the States comprising “the south” has it’s own dialect. I can tell, simply by listening, where a southerner is from, as the dialects are quite distinct.

There are over 200 dialects of English spoken in the US, and only two of them bear strong resemblence to the mother language.

Some southern accents (known as ‘drawls’) are charning where others are just simple.

I’m from New York and I dont find it a bit attractive. One day this man on the train was like ” Yellow girly yo needin to be watchin yo stayup a lil more girly “. I turned and said ” I said excuse me sir ” and then he goes ” Nah nah you thank what yo wanna thank buh yo know no giddy giddy yup “. I was like thinking WHAT THE HELL? I rather get a man with an Indian accent.

It depends, I have a southern drawl and I’m pretty intelligent, so that I like. When you have ignorant rednecks that speak stupidly that I don’t like.

    Hey KrautsRule,

I live in Australia, but I find the accent of the Southern United States absolutely delightful. It is so pleasant on the ear. It is has a melody to it, a bit like a song.

In fact I have been trying to learn a little “Suthern” from several websites. But I guess I really need to come and spend a few years there.

What to say, to me the Southern accent (or rather, Southern accents, as Texas is far from NC) is the most beautiful accent in the English language.

    Thanks for speaking it!

    Smiles,

    Playful

I like it. I have one because I’m from Texas. I’m not gay though, just being nosy and seeing what ya’ll talk about in this section.

English is not my first language, so I find really thick accents or drawls to be a bit perplexing. I misunderstood someone once and ended up almost getting arrested because I did not understand. All he wanted was directions. Oops!
My partner thinks it is so funny that I have to get him to translate for me sometimes. But I am trying to learn a few more idioms so I don’t look like a dumb foreigner all the time.
