What is the meaning and origin behind the last name Deimel?

Deimel.
It’s my cousin’s last name. What she knows is that its of German and possibly Jewish descent. Only ONE site has confirmed this somehow, saying its from Southern Germany.

All records we’ve found are before 1940s, so I’m blaming all lack of information on WWII.

Now, all joking aside, the hell does it mean and/or originated from?!

Deimel is, in fact, Jewish in origin. Its most common dispersion as a surname was in Germany, but it can also be found, historically, within the UK, Ireland, Australia, and of course the US. I also found records of immigrants from Russia to the US bearing the name.

Deimel is thought to be a derivative of Daum, which was a German/Jewish nickname for a small person. That is the only information I could find. Hope I helped!

South German: of uncertain derivation; possibly related to Daum.
