Why are penalties for crimes committed by young black men in the southern USA so excessively harsh?

There is nothing wrong with punishing anyone who has committed a crime. But it seems that if you are a black young man and commit a crime in the south, anything ranging from putting a hicky on your underage white girl friend or getting involved in a school fight …….they really slam you. Conversely, if a white young man hangs a rope on a tree in a clear statement of bigotry and intimidation, he is just suspended from school for a few days. How can they call these harsh punishments justice? Its a joke.
“it seems” is hardly a good basis for such a claim. Better get some valid statistics first.

I always remind my son to watch his P’s and Q’s when out and about. Racial profiling is real and so is a separate judicial system for Blacks. I remind him to keep his nose clean and not provide a reason to become yet another statistic.
Its because of the racism and facism that still exists in the Deep South. It was only a generation ago that black people would not have even got the chance to appear in court, they simply would have been strung up from the nearest tree. It may take another generation or two before there is true equality there

Yes six people attacking a person is a greater crime than a prank; even a juvenile racist prank like they pulled.
There is racism in the world but the Jena 6 case is a bad place to make a stand.
These 6 punks attacked 1 person, they need to go to jail regardless of their color or political interest in the case.
Yeah it’s pretty ridiculous. This guy i know is black (his name is bart) and he and this other white guy got into a fight. The white guy threw the first punch and bart ended up being placed under house arrest and had to wear an ankle clamp for almost a year. The white guy just got suspended from school. I have no idea why the punishment was so much more severe for bart, but he has never done anything in the past. Our legal system is effed up.

Nope I’m afraid I still don’t see the “statement of bigotry” as remotely as serious, bad taste yes, a problem yes, but it didn’t involve physical violence.
If you really want to freak out about racism go look at how the South’s denial of voting rights to felons has disenfranchised nearly 30% of voting age black males in some southern states. And yeah denial of voting rights to ex-convicts is a southern thing.
One word, racism. It has been around since the start of time and will be until the end of time.
Unless the tree files a formal complaint, there’s nothing criminal about hanging a rope on one. The problem is, people like you are unable to differentiate between a crime and a heinous act.
The Punishment fits the crime.
Hanging a noose dont hurt anybody, it can upset them, just as Smoking can Kill labels on cigarette packets and cancer warnings can, but can do no physical harm.
A severe beating however can easily do permanent harm even leading to a cessation of life situation, and civilised american culture draws a very thick bold dividing line between non physical action and Physical action, Afrfo Carribean culture follows any act of disrespectfullness should be followed with physical retribution, you say, hey this shit is worthless it 99% pure washing powder, and your head get blowed off, thats Black culture, white culture says, OK heres some real good shit, sorry, and you OD cos it pure an get dead that way. The penalties are harsh because the crimes they usually comit are harsh.
I think the hickey incident happened in GA. An 18 yo got several years in jail for doing this to his 16 yo girlfriend.
I admit there is racism in the South, but I can tell you it happens in ALL parts of the USA. It gets more attention in the South because of the history.
6 thugs jump 1 guy with the clear intention of causing him serious harm. And you jump to their defense..
While it was idiotic and pathetic, nobody was hurt by anybody hanging a rope in a tree. And more importantly, for the question at hand, there were NO laws broken.
So get over yourself, stop supporting and validating crime and become a decent person. Because right now.. YOU are the joke.
