Why do some people make jokes about southern people?

We are NOT stupid. We have feelings and should not have our own jokes. do you have to be famous to get a little respect? It’s mean and hurtful. People on tv always crack jokes and fake accents. Yes we do have accents but that shouldn’t define us. Alot of us here were raised to respect adults, and be curtious. What’s with the jokes. I know that i’m going to get an answer like ‘o well their funny’. they are not funny at all!! Why why why is all i’m asking?

uhmmm…what planet r u from? evry1 luvs the south. and in my opinion, ur not REALLY down south til u hit florida. georgia is south, but florida is SOUTH.
and i bleev u r referring 2 georgia?
p.s. texas is midwestern-not southern…
i think that from the top of georgia and above is north.

I agree with you, I’m Southern to the core, I’m from Texas, I do have an accent and say yall, but I’m not an idiot. I do some stupid stuff though. There are lots of Southern sterotypes, but not everyone in the South is like that. But I probably fit every every one of em, I grew up on a farm, my family is pretty redneck, but we’re proud of it.
Yeah, I’m from Kentucky and it gets on my nerves that people in a lot of other states think that everyone here is a hillbilly. I’m not and neither are any of my friends. Everywhere I go people comment on my accent and ask where I’m from. It gets old.
I am proud of my southern roots.I talk southern.I don’t care about the jokes.I don’t really think people intend it to be offensive and it doesn’t offend me.

That said, I hear you. It is bullshit that we are all stereotyped, but most people are stereotyped for one reason or another. I am from Alabama, born and raised…and I have to admit SOME of the stereotypes are true about SOME southerners. Thats just a cold hard fact. But I love being from Alabama! Fuck the haters, they can suck it!
By the way, I wanna go on record as saying I hate “Git er done.” It honestly makes me wanna vomit ferociously on anyone who says it. Its bad enough that alot of people say it, but now you see it on t-shirts, hats, bumper stickers, ect. I can fully understand why people just passing through think southerners are ignorant, dumb, dirty, hicks. Well, thats all I’ve got. =]
People make jokes about blondes, doctors, religion, monkeys (!!), and tons of other stuff.. Nobody takes them seriously.. They aren’t meant to be mean or hurtful! Just .. No. :L♥
