Yankee Doodle (Dandy)

Various European countries claim the original of the tune we know as Yankee Doodle, and it was the British who brought the tune to America during the French and Indian Wars. The opening words of the song refer to the fact that when Oliver Cromwell rode horseback into Oxford in 1653 he wore a hat decorated with a single feather fastened by an elaborate knot — an Italian decoration called a “macaroni.” The British troops used the song and the term sarcastically, to ridicule the makeshift appearance of the dress of American Colonial troops. When the Revolution began, the Americans adopted the song as a rallying tune, and it was played by fifers and drummers in every camp and battle. At the British surrender at Yorktown on Oct. 19, 1781, the American army band played Yankee Doodle to celebrate the American victory. YANKEE DOODLE LYRICS Yankee Doodle went to town, A-riding on a pony, He stuck a feather in his hat And called it macaroni. (CHORUS) Yankee Doodle, keep it up, Yankee Doodle dandy, Mind the music and the step, And with the girls be handy. Father and I went down to camp, Along with Captain Goodin’, And there we see the men and boys As thick as hasty puddin’. (CHORUS) And there was Gen’ral Washington, Upon a slapping stallion, A-giving orders to his men- I guess there was a million. (CHORUS) A long war then was fought and won: The British were defeated, And Yankee Doodle was the march To which their troops retreated. (CHORUS)

@jbranstetter04 LOOOOL Dear Lord! I can’t believe you just said that. As if the American people have anything to do with what America (run by Jews) does. Okay, nice talking to you pal. Have a good life.

@Nationalist1912 America was not out to invade, capture, and control the free countries of the world, hence we did not have a big and powerful military like Germany. But once it was recognized that it was our country that stood between the freedom of the world and the tyranny of Germany, we armed ourselves and kicked butt. By the end of the war we had a big enough military to take the world four times over. But of course we did not, as we are a freedom loving people.

  5. Nationalist1912 says:

@jbranstetter04 I don’t care what Germans you know say moron. I’d annihilate you as a human being in person just for the hell of it. My point is there is no pride in winning against one nation when you had 3 other super nations to help you fight and also Italy once Italy was invaded by the allies. If you want pride, compare America to Germany alone. Oh, that’s right, America wasn’t a match for Germany at all back then so you resort to the “America cleaned house in WWII” bullshit. Putz.

  6. jbranstetter04 says:

@Nationalist1912 Germany did have quite the triumphant victory over the Polish horse mounted cavalry. They must have all wrote home on how they destroyed the antiquated Polish army with their modern tanks.

The deciding blow was taken in this argument a few comments ago when LordKaisen wrote “well it didn’t [happen] did it? hindsight is such a drag”. I think the discussion is over here. Anyway, the Germans I know don’t go around bragging about what their country did in WWII.

  7. Nationalist1912 says:

@LordKaisen Poland was not that much smaller than Germany and Germany did away with Poland in 19 days. France in 1 month. And blew through Russia in a matter of 4 months. On top of that, fighting a four front war and STILL having submarines in the Atlantic close to New York and you’re here pumping your chest about America? Dumbass Germany was the WELT MACHT. It took every other superpower of the time TOGETHER to combat Germany and it still took 6 years to finish the job. Get your facts straight.

  8. Nationalist1912 says:

@BlondKilla Hitler made no mistakes and you’re right, they did have the best military.

  9. TouhatsuAndCo says:

    PINKIE PIE FTW!!

  10. BlondKilla says:

The Nazi Germany had the best military in the whole history of the world, they could have destroyed anyone, but Hitler made many mistakes, plus, in my oppinion, motherfu***ng Churchill began the world war.

  11. LordKaisen says:

@Nationalist1912 haha, stop taking credit for German aggression then. Germany vs. Czechs? Or Poles? this own logic would mean that Germany unqualifies itself for fighting in these wars against lesser populated nations.

  12. Nationalist1912 says:

@LordKaisen again, you’re taking pride in the fact that 4 men beat on one man. I don’t have to tell you how moronic you have to be to take pride in a war which you numbered more than 450 million while Germany had a mere 80 million people under its flag. Oh wait, I do have to remind you because you’re actually stupid enough to take pride in such an unfair advantage. Putz.

  13. LordKaisen says:

@Nationalist1912 well it didn’t did it? hindsight is such a drag, they could never have planned it as such. In the end the Americans whooped some ass

  14. Nationalist1912 says:

@LordKaisen Financially tough yes but Hitler’s Germany could have done it especially taking into consideration Germany was in the lead by a large margin in the arms race during the time. Germany had the best planes, tanks, weapons and technology and was the first nation to come close to achieving atomic power during the time. Had WWII not have distracted Hitler’s Germany, atomic power could have been achieved by 1944 or earlier which would make the war against America financially cheap :) Learn.

  15. LordKaisen says:

@Nationalist1912 geographically speaking hitler wouldn’t win. blitzkrieg works if the nations are close together, and get backstabbed by these proposed treaties. he’d have to cross the pacific, then occupy the continent. financially tough.

The nations of Europe wanted to avoid this war at all costs, and when hitler moved his forces they made excuses left and right. It’s why appeasement is reviled today, and partly why ron paul is still ignored by the media. History leads up to these events.

  16. edenic says:

That’s great apart from the orchestration..awful stuff.

  17. Crazyman1212 says:

this is the gayest civil war song of all time.

  18. Nationalist1912 says:

@LordKaisen We’re talking about WWII and WWI. Hitler’s Germany against America would be America’s last battle ever. You know this as much as I do. It took the entire USSR, England and all its colonies, the entire Balkan subcontinent, France and America to stop Hitler. So what makes you think America alone against Hitler would end in anything but America’s total and complete destruction in the course of less than 2 years if they’re lucky enough to resist for 2 years.

  19. jbranstetter04 says:

@LordKaisen Hey man, give Germany a break, for after all, in 2011 they spent the same on their military as Saudi Arabia, which was 45.2 billion USD. But it was funny when he said Germany could have ripped us a new one in WWI and WWII. Just when was this ripping to take place, before we kicked their butts or after? I guess that’s a question for him, not you.

  20. LordKaisen says:

@Nationalist1912 What are you getting angry for? All i’m saying is that germany was absolutely crushed by the good ol’ U.S of A. No point in arguing there, its a solid fact.

Now, tag team is a bit of a stretch. Most of these international missions are U.S backed, and U.S fought. Missouri sends more units than half of the EU combined to Afghanistan/Iraq.

Remember who pays for your benefits. Today we subsidize your German military, allowing your govt to spend on lavish welfare programs. think!

  21. jbwell24 says:

@CanadianTheGreat1812 You my friend. are retarded

  22. Nationalist1912 says:

@LordKaisen LOL you dumb fuck. I meant the war was never fought on German soil but way to turn that around and manipulate what I said. America didn’t turn anything around and I find it funny how you take pride in TEAMING UP with several other world powers to defeat Germany. Germany alone would have torn America a new asshole in both world wars. Germany had submarines on the shores of New York in WWII while fighting every superpower around it. That’s power. Americans had no power, only economy.

  23. incomingfire186165 says:

I love how the USA took an insult and made it a rallying song. I wish that happened more often.

  24. jbranstetter04 says:

    @CanadianTheGreat1812 Wrong song.
